![]() Some of the DS2 Scholar phantoms were coded with a small quirk that set them apart from the generic phantoms or they were scripted to do some interesting shit like Maldron or to gesture / throw carvings which made them stand out a bit better but as far as tangible NPCs go, DS2 was pretty bad. For example Aldrich eating people and the trap god makes him kind of bad enough, but having Hawkwood and Anri fill in the backstory of Aldrich and especially Anri's story giving Aldrich encounter a personal touch was pretty amazing. From a setting standpoint, assigning an NPC Unkindled to each of the Lords(except Lothric) made them have a bigger impact on the player than if you just encountered them as you went. It gave a much tangible sense of NPCs going out their own ways and fulfilling their own tasks within the game world. Anri and Horace for example are very good because you meet them a couple of times throughout the game and they put down their summon signs but they also visit the hub and are able to summon YOU into THEIR world which was brilliant when you helped them kill a boss or an NPC. I acknowledge the things DS2 did well but I think DS3 did the concept much better with the fellow unkindled who have their own duties. >If Dark Souls didn't do the whole alternate worlds thing we would see them at Maughlin buying armor etc. I get why people might prefer the more "story" based character appearances in 1 and 3, but I definitely love the way it was handled in 2. Some ate even found through weird and unique circumstances like lighting every sconce in the Gutter or playing entirely offline in Grave of Saints. Facing the same struggles, and even picking up the same items and equipment (which is indicated well by them wearing shit from all over the game world and just using equipment you likely won't see until you reach a certain point) and they made that feeling of a living world even more prominent in SotFS by putting a big focus on the NPCs you can find. 2 has so much thought and effort put into it that I will curse Bamco every day for fucking over its development.Įxactly! They feel like living entities all over the place doing the same kind of things you're doing. But it did so many things well that bitter fanboys will overlook or never think about because they have some weird brand loyalty fetish or something. 186712660īloodborne discussion is welcome here, but you'll get more help in their general: >/vg/bbgĭiscord (READ THE README BEFORE JOINING): dsg/ - Demon's/Dark Souls General Anonymous 08:28:45 Post No. ![]()
